As the sun rises without the UK as part of the EU, I can't help but recall a poem I wrote a year ago.

Brexit countdown was not a happy one (VectorStock)

I know you need

something to be proud of

and it hurts me

to ruin it for you

but my friend

what you did

years ago

was barged

into someone's home

called it your own

stole everything

destroyed homes

you came as a guest

went as a conqueror

you ruled

but never won hearts

two hundred years later

you gave me my home

and you still continue so

you gave home

to me on your land

and my another million

spin that globe

any nation that appears

you are home

for them

as you say

let bygones be bygones

you are finally a home

homes don't have an option

called Exit.
